Alison
R. Brown is
the president and principal consultant of ALMEC International, which is
based in Columbus, OH. Founded in 1995, the company provides management
and employee training and development strategies and assessment tools
that enable organizations to improve internal communications, productivity
and reduce turnover and its effects. The consulting firm has worked with
organizations of 500 to 50,000 employees in the areas of workforce diversity,
management skills, facilitation, train the trainer, leadership, and employee
relations. Clients include US Bank and the American Red Cross.
Ms.
Brown worked for American Electric Power (formerly Ohio Power/Columbus
Southern Power) for nearly 18 years before starting her own company. She
is an adjunct professor at Central Ohio Technical College, where she teaches
management development courses and has received outstanding evaluations
from the students. Ms. Brown is pursuing a master’s degree at the
Ohio State University in Labor Relations and Human Resources. She graduated
with academic honors from Franklin University with a bachelor’s
degree in Business Administration. She has met with and given business-related
guidance to students at the Ohio State University. They will be the future
generation of entrepreneurs.
Ms.
Brown is featured in a book entitled Mission Possible Volume Three, (www.almec.com)
along with Dr. Stephen Covey, Deepak Chopra and Pat Summitt. She is a
contributing author to Real World Leadership Strategies That Work. Executives
from IBM, Prudential, Principal Financial, US Bank, Verizon Wireless,
and Hewlett-Packard partnered with her on the project. She wrote an article
that was published in The Advisor by the Consultants Forum, a Professional
Emphasis Group of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
In
the spring of 1993, Ms. Brown was nominated for Ohio Business Person of
the Year, a prestigious award that has been given since 1956. She is the
President of the Board of Directors for the proposed B.E.S.T. Federal
Credit Union (the first of its kind) that is being chartered. The mission
of the credit union is to serve the traditionally underserved. The prototype
will be in Columbus, OH and then duplicated across the country. Ms. Brown
was recently nominated for Small Business Person of the Year, an award
given by the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. She is President-Elect
of the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (Columbus
chapter).
