Toni
Y. Odom's unique
background in business, social work and communications has developed her
skills and made her a noted speaker, journalist, activist and business
owner. "My goal in life is to make my people aware of their traditional
greatness by empowering them and promoting positive images of every facet
of our lives."
Formerly
the Communications Coordinator and the International Editor in Chief of
the The Aurora Magazine for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., she has also
been the National Director of Publicity for the National Pan Hellenic
Council which includes the nine historically African American fraternities
and sororities. Her communications backgrounds spans over twenty years
as a reporter and freelance journalist who scooped St. Louis major dailies
when she broke testimony of a witness to a second gun in a police shooting
incident. Working for St. Louis' top radio station, KSHE 95 FM, she not
only supervised the stations $12 million revenue, she also became a popular
morning drive character.
Currently,
Odom is employed by Disney Publishing Worldwide and recently founded Between
Sisters, Inc. (www.betweensisters.org)
a nonprofit dedicated to helping women of color to develop a more positive
self esteem. She is a dynamic speaker and has spoken at various colleges
and universities such as Arizona State University, Oklahoma University,
Truman College and many others as well as conducted workshops for Tavis
Smiley’s Youth to Leaders Foundation, the I Have A Dream Foundation,
and the African American Women on tour.
As
president and CEO of her company, Restore Communications, she has realized
her dream of owning her own business and has published her first book,
Sistahs N’ SistahHood. Sistahs (SNS). SNS has received numerous
accolades and the 2000 Best Non-Fiction Title from the popular Sistah
Circle Book Club. Her book has also been used for women’s studies
classes at Olive Harvey-Chicago City College and Northern Illinois University.
Restore Communications is the parent company for several other businesses
Toni owns including: Pampered Sisters (bath/body products), UGOGIRL Web
Hosting and Design, and SgrhoNalia.com(Sorority Paraphernalia website).
Toni
has been featured on several talk shows and the nationally syndicated
radio talk show, Today’s Black Woman with Jennifer Keitt. She has
also been featured on the SistaPower website. Toni has received leadership
awards from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Zeta
Phi Beta Sorority as well as the prestigious President's Award from the
Black Media Coalition. She has received the acclaimed Peachtree Service
Award from VIPP(Volunteers in Probation and Parole) and other service
awards from Junior Achievement, Opportunity Clearing House and the St.
Louis Public Schools.
Toni
is very proud to have received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Ohio
State House of Representatives and the key to the city of Dallas. She
is a graduate of Marquette University and resides in Hammond, Indiana.
