Ron
Carter is President of The Carter Agency (TCA), a Media
Relations and Advertising consulting firm. TCA’s clients have
included sports icon Evel Knievel; actress Gwen McGee; jazz pianist/singer
Jo Thompson; Grammy nominated producer/guitarist Doc Powell; shirt
maker & custom tailor Sharon Williams-Tobin; author/columnist
Anthony Samad; television production company Inklein; pop rock group
Starless; non-profit center Western States Black Research Education
Center; West Angeles Performing Arts Theater; independent record
company TNO Entertainment among others.
He recently served as Senior Director of Media Relations for Quincy
Jones’ Qwest Records where he managed the company’s
communications
strategies. While at Qwest Records, he was the press agent for Quincy
Jones, Ray Charles, Tevin Campbell, Andrae Crouch, Tamia,Hiroshima,
Keith Washington, Safir, Sonny Simmons and the Clayton Brothers
to name a few.
Prior to
joining Qwest Records, Carter was Manager of Publicity for Warner
Bros Records. His public relations responsibility for the label
included
guiding the media career of artists such as Chaka Khan, George Benson,
Isley Bros, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Wallace Roney, Me’Shell
NdegeOcello, Ice-T, Jungle Brothers, Al B Sure, Earth, Wind &
Fire, Da Bush Babees among others.
He began
his entertainment industry career in 1985 at Gene Shelton &
Associates.
His music
industry career began at Motown Records in 1985 where he
worked as Assistant to the Executive Director of Press & Publicity
for two years. He subsequently moved to Michael Jackson’s
MJJ Productions where he served as Executive Assistant to the Vice
President of Communications and Media Relations until 1989. He was
then named Publicist for Polygram Records and thereafter Director
of Publicity for Mercury Records, a Polygram Holding Company subsidiary.
While working
for Polygram and Mercury Records, he was the publicist for Tony,
Toni,Tone, Angela Winbush, Oleta Adams, Third World, Black Sheep
and Cameo among others. In 1992 he joined Warner Bros Records and
finished his tenure there as Artist Development Manager.
Prior to
his career in the recording industry, Carter was a Trust Administrator
for Bank of America in Los Angeles. He also served as an Internal
Auditor for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. He graduated from
California State University at Fullerton with Bachelors of Arts
Degree in Communications, emphasis Public Relations.
He is a
member of the Entertainment Publicist Professional Society; The
Recording Academy; Altadena Town Council; Pasadena Chamber of Commerce
and West Angeles Church of God In Christ. He is also the
co-founder of B-Rainmaker.org, a networking consortium.
He was recently
elected as the President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
Life Members Club and has held the following positions in Phi Beta
Sigma Fraternity, Inc.: immediate past National Director of Bigger
& Better
Business; National Publicity Director; Western Regional Director
and President of Phi Beta Sigma Chapter.
He has gained
several awards for his tireless work as a community activist, professional
public relations executive and a Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
member.
