Jacquelyn B. (Jacqui) Gates

Jacqui Gates is the President and CEO of SOARing, LLC, a leadership multiplier delivering consultative services to support organizations with strategic development initiatives. She is also the Chief Operating Officer of BodyBasic, a healthy lifestyle magazine targeted to the African American community.

Gates is the former Ethics Officer for the World Bank Group where she reported to the Office of the President and provided leadership direction in communicating the mission and values in upholding the ethical framework of the organization’s Washington, DC headquarters and 140 world wide offices. Prior to the World Bank Group, Gates was a corporate officer for Duke
Energy and served as Vice President of Diversity, Ethics and Compliance. She also served as a corporate officer reporting to the Chairman of Bell Atlantic/Verizon and led various ethics, diversity and corporate culture initiatives from 1990 to 2000. During her tenure, Bell Atlantic was the 1999 recipient of the American Business Ethics Award and received the highest grade on the 1999 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Annual Telecommunications Industry Report Card.

Prior to NYNEX, she served as manager of human resources, development and diversity for Time, Inc. Magazine Co., from 1988 to 1990; manager of corporate relations/corporate public affairs/professional placement for PepsiCo., Inc., from 1982 to 1986; manager of industrial relations, Paramount Pictures Corporation, from 1981 to 1982; and relocation manager, corporate headquarters recruiter for Revlon Inc., from 1979 to 1981. Also, she worked as a placement representative for J.C. Penney Company, from 1977 to 1979,
and as a family counselor for New York City Agency for Child Development, from 1973 to 1977.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Gates received a bachelor’s degree in history and
sociology from Brooklyn College (City University of New York) in 1973. She
continued her graduate work in human resources and personnel management at the New School for Social Research in New York, N.Y.

Gates is a board member of the Ethics Officer Association and Operation Reachback Inc. Gates is on the Advisory Boards of the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley College, the National Association of Black Telecommunications Professionals and the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc - - of which she is one of its former national presidents.
