Darryl A. Peal
Brief Biographical Sketch

Darryl A. Peal is the Assistant Vice President and Director of Diversity Initiatives for the United Way of Central Ohio. In his current position, He serves as the chair of the internal diversity committee and is responsible for providing training for senior and administrative staff on all issues surrounding diversity. Darryl is also responsible for program allocations, Cultural Competence Standards for agencies and programs, Project Diversity, a six-month board-training program for professionals of color and develops community initiatives that combat prejudice and ethnic bias.

Before coming to the United Way, Darryl served as the Assistant Dean of Students and Coordinator of Ethnic Diversity for Otterbein College for eight years. Prior to working at Otterbein College, Darryl worked at Ohio University where he was the Assistant Director of Health Education and Wellness. He has also worked at a Historically Black College, Wilberforce University, where he served as the Director of Counseling services. Darryl’s experiences have made him a highly sought after consultant on Diversity Initiatives as a well-known Diversity Trainer. Currently, he also serves as an adjunct professor at Wilberforce University where he teaches courses in “Organizational Behavior” and is currently teaching “Organizational Communication”.


Darryl’s more recent accomplishments include co-writing an article in the Higher Education Journal, About Campus. The article entitled, How We Can Do Diversity Training Better, is based on using cognitive development theories to teach diversity training. Darryl was selected as one of the 2002 Business First 40 under 40, the Columbus Junior Chamber of Commerce 10 outstanding Young Citizens of Columbus and 2002 Who’s Who in Black Columbus. Daryl is a proud member of Trinity Baptist Church and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Darryl is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Print and Broadcast Journalism. He also has a Masters of Social Sciences from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.


Darryl is married to Dr. Regina Peal and resides in Reynoldsburg, OH.
